What is Hemp CBD?

Discovered in 1940, CBD (aka Cannabidiol), is one of the hundreds of compounds called cannabinoids found in hemp, the non-psychoactive variety of the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids can also be found in the human body, and are key in normal immune and central nervous system functioning. A patent filed by the US Department of Health & Human Services defines cannabinoids as "antioxidants and neuroprotectants."

The Hemp plant is very rich in CBD, yet has almost no THC, the cannabinoid responsible for the "high" from cannabis. Thanks to the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill, hemp is now legal across the country, as long as the plant contains less than 0.3% THC.

The many benefits of CBD

CBD was discovered many decades ago, but it has only recently been appreciated for its wide range of benefits. While some use it to ease anxiety, manage pain or reduce inflammation, others simply consume CBD as a plant-based nutrient to maintain a state of homeostasis, a term used to describe the process of maintaining internal balance in an ever-changing external environment. In humans, homeostasis refers to balancing all the processes that ultimately keep our bodies functioning properly: sleep, digestion, blood pressure, body temperature, mood... the list goes on. Our internal system responsible for maintaining homeostasis is called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

Despite the multitude of functions performed in each area of the body, the primary objective of the ECS is always the same: homeostasis, as it is quite literally the "bridge between the body and our mind". The ECS is comprised of two primary receptors: CB1 (found mostly in the brain, nervous system, and outlying organs and tissues) and CB2 (found mostly in white blood cells, tonsils and spleen).  Even though CBD has low affinity for these receptors, it does interact with other nominal receptors with remarkable effects such as treating pain and inflammation as well as antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and neuroprotective effects.

Full-Spectrum CBD and the "Entourage Effect"

Full Spectrum CBD means we include all the naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids from the full plant extract, instead of simply isolating the CBD molecule. More and more evidence is showing that it's the combined action of all these different components, also called "the Entourage Effect", that provides the most therapeutic benefits.

Where does the CBD in UbU Hemp Tonics come from?

It all begins by using specific strains of premium, organically-grown hemp from Colorado. We then produce a full-spectrum oil, using a proprietary process that retains more of the benefits versus what's available from solvent or CO2 extraction. The oil is then converted into a water-soluble powder for maximum bioabsorbtion and benefits.

CBD in a beverage

Safer than vaping, with more bioabsorbtion than capsules and way better taste than oils or tinctures, UbU Hemp Tonics are the most enjoyable and refreshing way to get your dose of CBD relief.
